Receivers move to close Mygate

Apple reseller folds with £1m debts

Troubled Apple reseller Mygate went into receivership last week with debts in excess of £1m. The London-based company had been trading in Mac hardware since 1991, making an annual turnover of £6m.

Official receiver BDO Stoy Hayward was called in last Tuesday and the company has now ceased trading. Joint receivers Simon Michaels and David Gilbert of BDO Stoy Hayward have already sold all Mygate assets to Guildford-based Apple reseller CanCom.

Michaels said in a statement that the "adverse effects of the economic downturn" and pressure on IT margins had forced the company into receivership.

All Mygate assets and 10 out of 18 sales and technical staff were acquired by CanCom. A source within the company said CanCom has been fulfilling all Mygate orders since last week, and any new business will automatically pass to the company.

All orders received through Mygate's website will also go through CanCom, the source said, although the site is due to close this week.

CanCom announced that the former Mygate Solutions Cafe, a showroom where end users could talk to sales staff and see demonstrations, will now become a CanCom Apple Centre, with all other support, maintenance and services covered from the Guildford head office.

Max Wright, managing director at CanCom, said the deal will enable the company to expand further into the London area, and that further acquisitions were in the pipeline.
