ADIC unveils 'pay as you grow' library
Scalar 10K enterprise-class library offered to the channel
Advanced Digital Information Corporation (ADIC) has released its 'pay as you grow' Scalar 10K enterprise-class library into the channel.
The library, which uses fourth-generation technology, is scalable with native storage from 35Tb up to 888.1Tb. It is available in Linear Tape Open, Super Digital Linear Tape and Advanced Intelligent Tape, or mixed media configuration, and can hold 700 to 5000 tape cartridges.
"It's a customer-on-demand model; customers can purchase more slots as they require them," explained Fred Rybczynski, senior technical advisor at ADIC.
"Our partners will deliver the hardware with a minimum of 700 slots, and then customers purchase slots in increments of 100 as their data grows. When the library is full, our partners deliver additional hardware free. The customer only pays for what they use," he added.
Steve Mackey, sales and marketing director at ADIC, said that the company will sell the Scalar 10K both through its two-tier channel and directly to its enterprise resellers.
"We will accredit and train our value added resellers (VARs) to become enterprise-VARs which will then be able to sell the Scalar 10K to their end-user base with added software, storage area network (San) configurations, upgrades and maintenance all as a value-add. Our distributors will become enterprise-value added distributors, which will provide the software and Sans to resellers that do not have the expertise to do it themselves," he said.
He added that resellers will be "comfortable" with the Scalar 10K because the technology is extended from the Scalar 1000, so the channel understands the architecture.
Adrian Booth, storage specialist at ADIC reseller TriSys, said: "The Scalar 10K represents the most significant development in tape library design since the introduction of digital audio tape autoloaders.
"The scalability and flexibility of design offers an upgrade path that will evolve as new tape technologies emerge. For larger enterprise customers this is a significant technological advance that must be considered."
