Lan2Lan on track with TFT deal
Networking reseller extends agreement with Maiden Outdoor
Networking reseller Lan2Lan will expand a deal with media specialist and long-time customer Maiden Outdoor. The deal involves the roll-out of networked displays at railway stations across the country.
The networking VAR is working with BT Indirect Channels (BTIC) and distributor Anixter to install networked thin-film transistor advertising screens to show content, including news reports and adverts, to commuters.
The success of a pilot project at Victoria Station in London led to the customer requesting similar projects at other major stations in the capital. This has now spread across the country, and includes Edinburgh, Leeds and Manchester Piccadilly.
Gary Duke, sales director at Lan2Lan, said the initial project was a success but was unable to scale to include other stations.
The reseller has now implemented BT's equIP IP infrastructure network, rather than a point-to-point virtual private network.
"There are lots of extra technologies behind it, such as firewalls, and there is a good services revenue opportunity with ongoing support and development," Duke said.
Lan2Lan will carry out proof of concept, testing and deployment, as well as providing support and maintenance. "The margins are good because we are the only company offering this," he said.
Neil Watson, general manager specialist sales at BTIC, said the opportunity came to the firm via distributor Anixter, and shows the value of the reseller channel.
"Lan2Lan adds specialist skills that BTIC could not offer ourselves," he said. "We are trying to enable the channel to move into new areas."
