Comtec unveils Smarter service
VAR launches managed network service for Cisco offering
Comtec Enterprises has claimed it is the first UK reseller to launch a managed network service based on Smart Care, Cisco’s new collaborative service package for SMEs.
The fast-growing firm was one of just a handful of VARs picked to undergo early field trials for Smart Care after it was unveiled in April.
Andy Holland, Cisco product manager at Comtec Enterprises, said: “We believe we are the first off the blocks and when Smart Care is released generally to resellers at the end of this year or early next year, we want to be Cisco’s case study.”
The Comtec Care Solid Ground Solution, backed by Comtec’s network operations centre and tools from Cisco, offers SMEs that are lacking in-house resources round-the-clock maintenance support for the entire Cisco estate.
Holland said Comtec may soon encourage other resellers to white-label the service.
However, Scott Nursten, managing director at Cisco Gold partner s2s, which also took part in the field trials, said: “While Smart Care is a great idea, it’s still in its infancy. Until we are happy the bugs we have seen have been ironed out, we will not be launching a product around it.”
After finishing fourth in Deloitte Technology’s Fast 50 list of high-growth UK technology firms last year (CRN, 1 December), Comtec is hopeful it can repeat the feat in 2007.
Chris Jenkins, general manager at privately held Comtec, told CRN that Comtec is on course to bank a net profit of £2.5m to £3m on turnover of £8m to £10m this year.
