Viatel creates northern channel

ISP creates a management unit for the North region

Business ISP Viatel has created a seven-man northern channel team to aid in its partner push north of Birmingham.

Some 38 of the 50 partners Viatel has recruited since it ditched its direct-only sales strategy 18 months ago are located in the south of the country.

Neil Watson, director of indirect sales at Viatel, said: “We had two people based in the north, but have now created a new management unit focused on the north as a region. There’s a lot of potential there.”

Viatel, which offers broadband, leased lines, managed IP VPN, hosting and voice over IP services, is aiming to double its overall partner base to 100 by the end of 2007.

“Our proposition fits well with the channel,” Watson claimed. “We’re flexible about how we provide the service and will mould it around the capabilities of the partner.”
