Metrologie updates order delivery system
Metrologie UK has adopted a pan-European system after it installed an updated internal computer ordering process.
Last week, the distributor installed its computer system Euro-Tolas, a VMS-based network, which runs on the company?s existing Digital mini- computer hardware system, to harmonise its UK operations with its French, German and Spanish offices.
But one vendor reported that resellers were having problems getting hold of stock as the distributor updated its internal ordering system. Some resellers reported errors when they had received their deliveries.
Metrologie chairman Robert Mountain said the installation of the Tolas system had gone ?very smoothly? and denied that it had caused any deli- very problems:
?The whole transfer happened very smoothly. We had people working right through the weekend and we were able to continue shipping as normal first thing on Monday morning. I?m not aware of any delivery delays, and I would be made aware if there were any significant ones. There certainly haven?t been any caused by the Tolas installation itself.?
Distributors have suffered from long delivery problems after updating internal computer systems. Two years ago, Frontline moved over to its parent company?s system, Computer 2000, but it meant deliveries to resellers were delayed by up to three weeks.
The adoption of the system had to be postponed as the distributor made sure the system could cope with the amount of stock.
