Tandberg makes videoconferencing Movi

PC-based product allows any time, anywhere communication

Tandberg has unveiled a PC-based videoconferencing (VC) product that will allow end-users to communicate from anywhere and at any time.

Called Movi, it is the first PC video product to feature one-touch installation, Tandberg has claimed. IT departments can also manage Movi centrally over the internet.

Movi requires a webcam, microphone, speakers and a computer with an internet connection. The technology is then able to connect users to a full video infrastructure via the Movi window, Tandberg said.

Paul Gullett, UK and Ireland managing director at Tandberg, said Movi is different to other VC products.

“Movi will be available in the UK at the beginning of 2007,” he said. “Most PC-based VC products require software to be installed, but ours is web-based so no locally installed software is necessary.

“Movi will open the door to a number of opportunities for our partners. It will be a great product for our resellers to go in and wrap skills around, such as security. Resellers could also offer it as a service.”

Sam McMaster, managing director of VC VAR Questmark, said: “As a Tandberg partner we were first shown Movi about six months ago. It will plug in very easily to an existing VC infrastructure so it gives us an opportunity to re-visit existing customers. The great thing is that it can connect to any other Tandberg VC system as well as other vendor’s systems.

“I think we will see a big uptake initially in the education and retail markets.”
