A software package to translate outgoing email has been jointly launched by Tenfour and Globalink, to work in conjunction with TFS Gateway Release 3. It allows for email to be translated between the following European languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.

Computers Unlimited has released QX-Effects 3 from Extensis for QuarkXpress.

It enables users to apply 3D perspective shadows, drop shadows, bevels, glows and embosses to objects or text directly in Xpress. It costs #99.99, but current owners of QX-Tools 2 can upgrade to QX-Effects for #49.99.

Interactive education software developer CBT Systems has expanded its intranet-based deployment system with a live play capability. Adobe has released an enhanced plug-in facility for Photoshop, improving its PC performance with Intel MMX. The company maintains that this latest plug-in will deliver three times the number of accelerated Photoshop functions offered by the first-generation plug-in.

Syncronys Softcorp has unveiled the UK launch of Zipper, a zip archive management utility for Windows 95 and NT4. The product allows files to be created, viewed and compressed/decompressed according to wish, and compressed files can be sent via email. Wholly-owned Apple subsidiary Claris is shipping Claris Works Office for Windows 95, NT 4 and Mac OS in the UK. The suite includes Claris Works 5 software, which incorporates internet enabling and linking. It also has JIAN Business Basics, made up of more than 60 business documents such as worksheets and checklists covering sales, marketing and accounting functions. It takes up less than half the memory of other suites, and offers more features with cross-platform compatibility. It costs #99 from distributors CU and Frontline.

Motorola has recruited Paul Beaumont (below) as MD for EMEA. He has over 16 years of experience in the data communications field. His previous position was chairman of Business Progression International, a sales and marketing consultancy firm.

Information management system developer Smallworld has made two UK management appointments. Pamela Small (above) has been promoted from UK marketing manager to marketing communications manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Also, Nick Chisnall has been named managing director, bringing with him over 10 years of experience.

Onyx Software has appointed four additional members of staff at its Middlesex-based European headquarters. Clive Hopkins joins the telecommunications and utility department, Fraser Herrick joins the UK finance sector, Tanya Marshall arrives as European account development representative and Andy Barbour has been named European channel manager.

Steve Smith (above) has joined CMS Peripherals as sales director, where he will be responsible for 38 sales staff. Formerly head of sales at Cable & Wireless, Smith has also held senior positions at Pitney Bowes and the Mayfair Group.
