Microtechnics splits into two businesses
MS partner divides after dispute
Microsoft Gold partner Microtechnics Systems has entered into voluntary liquidation and is splitting into two separate businesses after a dispute between its directors.
Microtechnics is part of Systems Group International (SGi), and resells products from Microsoft, Cisco, 3Com, Novell and Alcatel, among others.
A representative of SGi said the liquidation had nothing to do with performance.
"Due to a shareholder/director dispute, the company could not carry on, so drastic action was taken," he said.
The firm will cease to exist as Microtechnics. "Two directors (Mark Kirkland and Andy Soames) will take the (reseller) business forward and a third director (Rajeev Kapoor) will run the training business," the representative said.
Arif Anwar, senior partner at accountancy firm Rifsons, has been appointed as liquidator.
A Rifson representative confirmed that Kapoor had resigned to head the training business and said the liquidation will allow the reseller business to restructure. "This will put it back on an even keel," he said.
A meeting of creditors will be held this week.
The SGi representative was unable to confirm whether creditors will get any money. "There are legal proceedings underway and I cannot comment," he said.
Alan Norton, head of intelligence at credit firm Graydon, said the firm will have to repay vendor partners to secure its future. "But customers probably won't notice the difference," he added.
Microtechnics directors were unavailable for comment.
