LGIC signs EFL for UK networking bid
LG Information and Communications (LGIC), the networking division of Korean giant LG, has appointed Aldermaston-based hardware distributor Electronic Frontier (EFL) as the sole UK distributor to spearhead its entry into the networking market.
Offering the entire range of LGIC GoldStream's networking products, the vendor hopes to go head-to-head with established vendors such as Cisco and 3Com.
The GoldStream range includes Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit switches, hubs and adapters. It will also provide Digital Video Recorder (DVR) products.
Calvin Brewer, Lan division sales manager at EFL said: "LGIC is serious in its commitment to the European market. The products that we have today are more than a match for most vendors in the small office and the corporate market."
With the vast resources of the $73bn Korean behemoth behind its debut in the UK networking market, Brewer said LGIC had the capability of becoming an industry leader in the sector.
Meanwhile, Gary Stevens, general manager of EFL, claimed LGIC's move away from the broadline distributors towards more specialist businesses would help the company obtain better partnering and more focus.
Also last week, the electronics division of LG launched its latest line of professional 21in CRT monitors.
The Studio-works Plus Professional range is aimed at the professional Cad and graphics markets. The range automatically identifies itself to the host PC through plug-and-play technology and is fitted with USB as standard.
Digital Eye technology automatically adjusts the brightness and contrast, while LG's anti-reflective and static screen coating aims to reduce eye strain.
The monitor will be sold through LG's regular channels.
