Compaq announced this week that it has accredited A2000 Distribution as its specialist mobile UK distributor. The alliance is a continuation of the association between the two companies.
A2000 already resells many of Compaq's mobile PC products, including the vendor's recently launched iPAQ Pocket PC.
John Kemp, managing director of A2000, which specialises in mobile computing, said: "It is going to have a very positive effect on the company. We have had a relationship with Compaq for some time, and this is an endorsement of the amount and the quality of the work that we do here."
Kemp added that selling mobile PCs to be integrated into the corporate structure of a company is a complex issue, and that traditional broadband distributors do not necessarily have the specialist knowledge required.
"If the products cost more than, say, £5000, then broadliners would put a specialist on it, but the pocket PCs are almost in the suppliers' division and don't get the attention they deserve, which is exactly where A2000 come in. We are focused solely on mobile computing products," he said.
Resellers are likely to benefit from the relationship, as A2000 will be able to pass along its specialist knowledge and training on the products.
Michael Morgan, channel sales director at Compaq, said: "It is very important that we partner with companies that have specialist skills and knowledge and a partner base of their own. This enables Compaq to broaden its market access and penetration."
