Uunet Pipex sets up consultancy arm to hand out internet advice

Internet service provider Uunet Pipex has set up a dedicated consulting division to help organisations squeeze the most out of their connection to the internet.

The company ? which has had a series of spats with corporate dealers over channel conflict ? is to target big businesses and smaller ISPs with a range of specially designed consultancy products. These include a managed service for controlled connections to the Net, a 24-hour support service and a quickstart service for startup ISPs.

David Barrett, Uunet Pipex head of corporate communications in the UK, said increasing demand for Net consultancy services should double the new arm?s turnover in its first year.

The operation will consist of three business units: a strategic services team to help users business re-engineer around the internet; a technical services team providing systems and network integration, security implementation and configuration advice; and an online publishing group offering intranet and Web design advice, domain name registration and database integration.
