Kognitio targets VAR recruitment with WX2

Software vendor wants to recruit between 10 and 15 resellers in the next 12 months

Data analysis software vendor Kognitio is opening its doors to the channel for the first time with the launch of the latest version of its WX2 high-speed data analysis offering.

Kognitio hopes to recruit between 10 and 15 VARs in the UK in the next 12 months, with two already on board.

Roger Llewellyn, chief executive of Kognitio, told CRN: “The channel wants to have a low cost of entry for a client and with WX2 6.0 we have provided that. As well as a considerable increase in disk performance and capacity benefits, version 6.0 provides resellers with the ability to scale the software both up and down in size and offers a flexible licensing model.”

WX2 is available either as a stand-alone licence, a Virtual Data Appliance, a Business Intelligence-in-a-box solution or a managed service.

“Currently, most of our main competitors’ data analytics products require end-users to buy a hardware and a software configuration,” Llewellyn said. “However, ours run on industry-standard x86 hardware.”

He said the firm is looking for VARs who are involved in business intelligence and CRM or those with experience in verticals, including retail, utilities and financial.

Bob Tarzey, service director at analyst Quocirca, said: “Data-warehousing is typically an enterprise sale, so Kognitio will need to target high-end VARs. The interesting thing is the charging model, which allows the product to be sold as a service. This opens up the possibility of hosted data-warehouses that could be sold to the mid-market.”

Rusty Warner, vice-president of marketing for EMEA at rival vendor Teradata, said: “We have an offering for the low-end of the market that runs on a basic Windows PC, but our main focus is the mid to high end. Resellers will need to understand how data-warehousing can benefit a business; we mainly work with large system integrators such as Accenture.”
