FSB sets out New Year resolutions

Ministers must keep focusing on SMEs to keep UK economy running smoothly, organisation claims

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is predicting a tough 2007 for its members unless the government stands up for smaller firms.

It has drawn up a list of New Year’s Resolutions for high-profile public figures including Tony Blair, David Cameron, and Gordon Brown. The resolutions cover issues ranging from fair trading to local government finance, transport and skills.

Carol Undy, national chairman of the FSB said in a statement: “Small businesses employ over 58 per cent of the private sector workforce. A huge number of public figures have a major impact on these employers and their 12 million employees.

“To ensure that 2007 is a year in which small firms can grow, employ more people and keep their existing employees in jobs, we have resolutions for many of these public figures.

“If they keep them 2007 will be a prosperous year for the whole country. If they don’t, small businesses will suffer and with them will go the UK economy.”
