Changes at Intel HQ signal staff reshuffle
Chip giant Intel Europe has followed its US parent company by implementing an organisational restructure at its Santa Clara, California, headquarters.
Hans Geyer, former co-general manager of Intel Europe, has moved to head up a unit in Folsom, California, while his position has been filled by Rob Eckelman, former manager of the company's channel organisation.
Geyer was in the role for many years, co-managing Europe with senior vice president Steve Poole, who has returned to work at Intel's Swindon office for personal reasons. Poole's position as co-manager has now been taken by Earl Whetstone.
Meanwhile, in the US, Intel appointed four corporate officers and 10 senior VPs over the Christmas period. The four corporate officers are Louis Burns, Sean Maloney, Patricia Murray and Stephen Smith. Burns is responsible for Intel's IT systems, while Maloney runs Intel operations in South East Asia from its Hong Kong office.
The 10 VP appointments are Alan Baldwin, David Cowan, Leslie Culbertson, Peter Detkin, Jami Dover, Shelley Floyd, Thomas Franz, Avtar Saini, Gidu Shroff and Edward So.
Although an Intel representative told PC Dealer that Geyer's move was not a demotion, despite the fact that an insider at the company claimed he had effectively been sidelined.
It was Geyer and Compaq's chief Eckhard Pfeiffer who had a stand-up argument over the 'Intel Inside' branding campaign at a high-level conference in Madrid four years ago.
