Signify unveils web authentication service

Signify has finally launched an internet authentication service after ongoing development work since February.

The purpose of the scheme is to solve problems associated with vulnerable passwords which, according to some estimates, are the only protection for sensitive company data in 90 per cent of organisations.

John Stewart, chief executive at the company, told Computer Reseller News: "We are improving the security of ebusiness for online service providers. The main vulnerability of these businesses is that they give remote users the ability to access data through passwords - usually the weakest link in a security infrastructure."

Signify will provide a simple 'drop-in' replacement for the password in the form of the SecurID token-based authentication developed by RSA Security. The software developer also provides support and management services.

"If a company wishes to secure its users, they simply get the service from us via the reseller, and we will handle the integration and support," said Stewart. "We are currently looking for reseller partners who are involved in providing ebusiness solutions for their clients who can integrate our offering within their complete solution."

Explaining the rationale behind the service launch, Stewart said: "The company was inspired to create this initiative by the development of the service provider market. At Signify, our philosophy is that successful service providers will be those that are able to specialise. A variety of resellers and web integrators are already signing up."
