Westcon Security tools up for strategy shift

Distributor remoulds team around business development

McGrane: The challenge for distribution is to revamp the vendors' messaging into something that is commercially relevant

Westcon Security is repositioning itself as a business development resource for its resellers after renewing its staff line-up.

The distributor, which is based on Westcon’s 2007 acquisition of Noxs, has recruited eight staff since general manager Niall McGrane joined in February.

“A lot of Noxs staff had left when I got here,” said McGrane. "This enabled me to map out what I wanted to do and then fill those roles.”

McGrane said the distributor would help its resellers address their clients’ key security spending drivers, such as compliance and virtualisation security.

He has also added specialist technical resources for each of Westcon Security’s five core vendors: Blue Coat, Check Point, Juniper, F5 Networks and AEP Networks.

“The messaging from vendors is often around their specific technologies and the challenge for distribution is to revamp it into something that is commercially relevant,” he added.

“My focus is on business development,” he said.
