Computacenter reshuffle aims at European growth

The UK?s largest reseller, Computacenter, has reshuffled its marketing department, as the company increases market awareness about its consulting, integration and support services.

Martin Hellawell, formerly Computacenter head of marketing, has been promoted to general manager of corporate development and marketing.

As a result, the reseller has brought in Phil Williams as head of corporate marketing. He will be in charge of internal and external communications, including sponsorship, advertising and corporate marketing.

Williams was one of the five founders of Cascade Systems, a systems integrator and developer of software systems aimed at the publishing market.

He was jointly responsible for increasing market penetration to over 130 customers and achieved consolidated sales of $22 million in 1996.

Williams said: ?By bringing me in this will free up Martin to concentrate on other activities.?

It is understood that one of Hellawell?s objectives is to increase the awareness of Computacenter in Europe, as well as to capitalise on growth areas and expand the reseller?s overseas business. Hellawell, however, will retain overall responsibility for strategic marketing and special projects.

Williams will work alongside Adam Austin, the head of product marketing, who has been with Computacenter for at least two years.

Both Austin and Williams will report direct to Hellawell.

Computacenter recently reported preliminary results which showed a 60 per cent increase in turnover of #803 million in 1996, with a net profit of #38 million.
