It's a family affair for Terraglyph
Terraglyph is the latest software publisher to pin its hopes on the yet-to-boom market for interactive family entertainment and has teamed up with Funsoft to push its titles through family-centred outlets.
The company launches at Spring ECTS with its Fun Kids range featuring two games based on fairy stories: Hansel and Gretel and Rumplestiltskin. The titles include conventional interactive storytelling techniques found in the Living Books series, but also require the player to complete tasks in order for the adventure to progress. Both products are expected to retail at #29.99.
Terraglyph will be adding a Tiny Toon range to its catalogue in the early summer, aimed at a similar four to eight year-old age group.
The company claims it has developed a portable operating system which will allow it to pump out a new title every six to eight weeks. All the titles will be Windows 95 native and will rely on take-up from the growing 19 million world-wide Windows 95 user base.
Alison Turner, marketing manager at Funsoft, acknowledged that the retail channel for family software isn't yet sufficiently mature to sell Terraglyph style products in large volumes. She told CRN:
