Veritas picks Ideal as sole UK distributor

Storage software vendor Veritas Software has appointed Ideal Hardware as its sole UK end-to-end distributor, and has announced higher than expected first-quarter financial results.

The US-based company appointed Surrey-based Ideal at the end of last week as the only distributor in the UK capable of selling all Veritas product lines.

Tony Keen, distribution account manager at Veritas, said the deal came about because of the excellent working relationship that the two companies have had for a number of years.

"Ideal is moving into the enterprise storage arena, and it seemed a logical progression. Ideal brings added value, technology services and financial assistance to its resellers. It is not unique in doing this, but it does it well," he said.

Ian French, chief executive at Ideal, said that this was something his company had been working extremely hard on, and emphasised the difficulty in achieving this status.

"We can't quite believe this has happened," he said. "Increasing our high-end market share is something we've been working towards, and for a company like Veritas to allow us to distribute everything is amazing."

Veritas has produced much higher than expected results for its first quarter ended 31 March. The company announced turnover of $387m compared with $245m last year, a 58 per cent increase. Profit was up to $87m, a 68 per cent increase over the same period last year.
