Dell bows out of 3Par bidding war

Hardware vendor confirms end of merger discussions with 3Par

Dell has ceased discussions with 3Par

Dell has conceded defeat to HP in its fight for storage vendor 3Par.

In a statement to investors, Dell confirmed that it has ended discussions with 3Par and will make no further moves to acquire the firm.

“We took a measured approach throughout the process and have decided to end these discussions,” said Dave Johnson, senior vice president of corporate strategy at Dell.

Over the past week, HP and Dell have been embroiled in a bidding war over 3Par, with HP emerging victorious yesterday by offering $2.4bn for the firm.

However, despite losing out to HP, the vendor is confident that its growth plans will not suffer.

Johnson added: “We believe our strategy of creating open, affordable and capable solutions resonates well with customers and will enable us to continue to outgrow the industry."
