Vobis looks for a new home with Ryman

German retailer/manufacturer Vobis is looking to open computer concessions in Ryman shops to replace the 31 outlets it had wiped out by current partner Powerstore shutting that many stores.

Vobis has lost almost a third of its UK presence due to the Powerstore and Home-power group's entry into administration. It is still trading through the remaining 54 branches.

Industry observers believe the Ryman move will be the third mistake Vobis has made in trying to conquer the UK market. It found its first attempt to establish itself with Dixons unsatisfactory, and Ryman has already unsuccessfully tested computer concessions in conjunction with mail order company Time.

Vobis stores are understood to contribute 40% to the turnover of Powerstore branches.
