Iberia hysteria for Maverick
Audiovisual distributor boosts Spanish credentials as it bursts into Portuguese market
EC does it: Maverick is continuing its expansion into mainland Europe
Audiovisual (AV) distributor Maverick is to surge into the Portuguese market after hailing the success of its nascent Spanish outpost.
Maverick's Hotlamps division launched in Portugal last month, and the distributor's Presentation Products unit is set to follow suit two weeks from today. The Basingstoke-based firm, part of distribution powerhouse Computer 2000, has also been signed as vendor Promethean's Portuguese distributor of choice.
Maverick Europe director Jon Sidwick claimed the education-specialised manufacturer holds more than half of Portugal's interactive whiteboard market.
"We were in the process of opening Maverick in Portugal while in discussions with Promethean," he said. "Our agreement with them delivers a strong platform to the business. They dominate the interactive whiteboard market in this area and will enable us to offer our resellers the market-leading brand, together with a range of complementary products."
The two companies have also inked a partnership covering neighbouring Spain, where Maverick opened an office last year. The distributor described the Spanish whiteboard market as "more embryonic" than its Portuguese counterpart.
Sidwick said: "We launched in Spain last year and have developed a successful AV distribution business selling into both AV resellers and the IT corporate dealer base. The addition of Promethean completes our product set, enabling us to offer a complete range."
