Tandberg adds iRep tool to Nas disk arrays

Replication functionality added to Nas prodcuts to boost indirect sales

Tandberg Data has added data replication functionality to its Nas product range in a bid to help boost its UK indirect sales.

The German tape storage vendor is now shipping a replication process tool dubbed iRep with its ValuNAS family of storage disk arrays, designed to offer backup-to-disk-to-tape capabilities. Tandberg hopes this will help it win share in the SME market.

Albrecht Hestermann, Tandberg's European general manager, said: "iRep is a replication process that can be defined on a couple of systems, or many systems distributed worldwide, to manage the duplication of data in backup on a block level. This is an administration-saving product that will run for years."

James Anderson, storage analyst at Macarthur Stroud, said: "Nas solutions are most cost-effective for SMEs that can't put in a Fibre Channel San.

"[Replication] is perhaps not something small firms would look at. But with the ever-growing needs of legislation and compliance, it may be a factor for those that might not have worried about it in the past."

Tandberg also is preparing to unveil two service-level reporter autoloaders at the CeBIT show.
