Midwich strikes deal with new Philips range
Midwich has been appointed as sole UK distribution partner for Philips' latest 3D displays.
Darren Lewitt, divisional director for audiovisual (AV) at Midwich, points out that 3D is not a new concept, but said Philips is the first manufacturer to patent it, launch it to the channel and make it available.
“Over the past few years we have seen 3D technology being developed in displays, but no one has really cracked it. Philips, however, now has 3D technology without the need for 3D glasses,” said Lewitt.
Philips has initially launched three 3D offerings: a 42in LCD stand-alone product, ideal for out-of-screen advertising; a 20in screen ideal for point-of-sale usage; and a 132in videowall, ideal for corporate receptions and events. Midwich will stock everything but the videowall, and the products will sit in Midwich’s new HiTechnology division alongside other specialist products.
“We have appointed a team of four specialists to focus on the Philips 3D technology who will work with resellers down to end-user level,” said Lewitt, adding that Midwich will initially look to appoint a select number of AV resellers for this product. Midwich will also look to appoint content creation and media companies to support the resellers.
Specialist integrator Amazing Interactives has already begun selling the Philips 3D products. Nigel Rodwell, technical director at Amazing Interactives, told CRN: “We are a 3D specialist and the Philips range is definitely one of the best we have seen. It is very easy to create content for and has seven different sweet spots, which is a lot more than other screens.”
