Logical helps Bolton to further education

System integrator completes network upgrade at higher education institute

System integrator Logical UK has completed a network upgrade at the Bolton Institute of Higher Education, which replaces its legacy system.

The firm has installed a high-speed network infrastructure based on Cisco products, with three-year maintenance and support package. It will give over 7,000 students access to services such as IP telephony, video streaming, IP multicast applications and IP TV in the future.

The demand for broadband in the education sector is generating good business for the channel. Darragh Richardson, director of marketing at Logical UK, said there has been a rise in demand as organisations sign up to the SuperJanet national educational network.

"It is in the interest of big educational organisations to build big internal networks to take advantage of the broadband connection provided by SuperJanet," he said.

Universities receive a connection to the network then build internal networks. Richardson said resellers are essential in supporting the universities.

Ruth Jenkinson, dean of learning support and development at Bolton Institute, said: "We are delighted that this project has been able to draw on the technical expertise of Logical and of the Bolton Institute's networking and systems team."
