CA on acquisition trail

Software giant buys storage vendor XOsoft for undisclosed amount

Computer Associates (CA) has bolstered its storage management portfolio with the acquisition of privately-held continuous application availability software vendor XOsoft.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed amount, will enable CA to offer a complete recovery management solution that it claims will allow customers to minimise the risk of data loss, reduce the time spent on backups and speed up recovery of critical business services.

CA intends to integrate XOsoft's products with its existing BrightStor ARCserve Backup software, and is also planning development of an information protection platform to simplify recovery operations.

Jason Phippen, director of CA's EMEA storage management business unit said: "IT organisations need to ensure the availability and recoverability of email, database and other business applications across their storage infrastructure. With this acquisition, CA is meeting customers' requirements for protecting, securing and quickly recovery critical applications and information from any location across the enterprise."

Jon Collins, principal analyst at market watcher MWD Advisors said: "The XOsoft acquisition is a welcome addition to CA's portfolio, combining a number of data protection capabilities to help enable CA's customers to deliver effective data protection."
