Misco makes Scottish return
Misco is returning to Scotland less than a year after its parent company, Systemax Europe, closed its Scottish manufacturing plant.
The VAR told CRN it will be opening a new sales office in Greenock next month to “better support the increasing corporate and public sector customer base in Scotland”.
Lee Dutton, UK sales manager at Misco UK, said: “Misco has undergone numerous strategic changes over the last year that have focused the organisation’s growth and profitability plans. This investment demonstrates its success. We will be looking to recruit quality local staff for the Greenock sales office.”
Dutton said that two years ago Misco had a sales office in Scotland but has been handling Scottish customers from the south since then.
“We already have significant business in Scotland, but we realise that there are also other opportunities there. Around 70 per cent of our revenue comes from our corporate arm, with 30 per cent coming from the consumer side. Our plan is to grow the consumer side to become as big as our business-to-business offering,” he said.
Carolyn Worth, external relations manager at rival PC builder Evesham, said: “We have had a base in Scotland for 10 years. Although it is not our biggest branch, it is healthy. There are a lot of opportunities in Scotland but it takes a while to establish yourself. What the local businesses will think of a firm that slopes off at the first sign of trouble is something that Misco’s sales team will have to deal with.”
