Exabyte boosts its Mammoth drives

Exabyte has upgraded its 440/480 tape libraries to improve its 8mm tape drive range.

The updated line offers six times the performance, three times the capacity and half the cost per megabyte of the old range, the maker claims.

The libraries, based on Exabyte's Mammoth 8mm drives, are aimed at large networks and data centres using multiple application servers.

Typical hard disk capacities for the products are between 200Gb and 700Gb.

Software vendors, including Cheyenne, IBM, Legato Systems, Seagate Software and Storage Management Group, have tested the drives.
