HannsG in fifth place in monitor market
Dell holds onto top spot in UK and Ireland monitor market, but fledgling firm shoots straight into top five
Monitor vendor HannsGhas attained fifth position in the UK and Ireland monitor market despite only entering the sector in April.
The latest figures from display analyst Meko reported the top four monitor vendors for the UK and Ireland for the third quarter as Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Acer and Samsung, followed by HannsG in fifth place with a 4.35 per cent market share.
Martin Kent, HannsG territory manager for UK and Northern Europe, told CRN: “Our parent company based in Taiwan, Hannstar Display, is an OEM panel manufacturer. We enjoy the manufacturing cost benefits of our parent company which enables us to offer competitive prices in the UK.
“We launched in April with Micro Peripherals[Micro P] as our first UK distributor and then appointed Ingram. At this stage we only sell through the channel and when we get more resources we’ll launch a channel programme.”
HannsG has also been establishing the TV division of Hannstar, called Hannspree, in the UK.
“We’ve only been pushing Hannspree for a couple of months. Micro P has taken on Hannspree TVs,” Kent added. “We have the traditional looking TVs and then the lifestyle ones, which come in a variety of shapes and themes such as a football-shaped LCD TV and even a giraffe.”
HannsG’s focus for next year is to maintain its position as the top five monitor vendor in the UK, which will be a tough job, according to Kent.
Pete Gamby, research director at Meko, told CRN: “It is remarkable that HannsG has reached the number five position so quickly. It has had two good quarters of growth, but the question is can that be sustained? Once you’ve established that number five position it’s fairly easy to hang onto it but to get to the next level is very difficult – it means taking on the likes of HP and Dell.
“One of the reasons for HannsG’s success is that it is vertically integrated with one of the leading Taiwanese panel manufacturers.”
Jonathan Wall, marketing director at Dabs, said: “We started trading HannsG products in August and in terms of units sold they are currently our number three monitor vendor. HP is number two and our own brand, Dabs Value, is number one.”
