SMC executes channel expansion plans
Networking vendor makes the first of two planned distribution additions with the signing of Gen-x IT
Branching out: SMC has built on its success manufacturing network cards by moving into higher end products
Vendor SMC Networks has bolstered its UK distribution line-up with the addition of Manchester-based Gen-x IT.
Late last year, SMC revealed plans to double its UK distribution line-up to four through the addition of two server or storage players. The vendor also claimed it wanted to add up to 50 UK reseller partners.
Gen-x, which distributes vendors including Bigred Solutions and Coyote Point Systems, joins Auriga and Micro-P in a three-strong distribution line-up.
The Mancunian distributor will carry SMC's entire portfolio and will focus on SME-oriented products. The California-based vendor built its name making network cards but now manufactures a range of networking gear, including voice over IP, switches and wireless kit.
Gen-x claimed SMC's Dialog Partner Programme and free online training had been attractive incentives. The distributor begins selling SMC kit this month and will be showcasing products at the IP Expo event at London's Earls Court in October.
Paul Smith, business development manager at the distributor, said: “I am very pleased to add a brand like SMC Networks to our portfolio. SMC is a name that is synonymous with the networking industry and has a fantastic range of products to serve the marketplace, from the lower end of the market right through to high performance switches."
SMC's northern European sales director George Zervos said: “We are very glad to bring Gen-x IT on board. This agreement will open new avenues of sales and support for us in the UK market and it will help to expand and grow the business in the local IT market."
