IBM yet to rule out PartnerWorld 2010

Big Blue hints that it is keeping an open mind on global channel extravaganza

IBM: We continue to evaluate the need for a business partner-only event

IBM has refused to rule out the return of PartnerWorld this year, hinting that it is reviewing its options.

Speculation around the 2010 event has been mounting since the IT giant scrapped its 2009 get-together, replacing it with smaller, more localised events for its channel partners.

Back in 2008, Big Blue scaled down PartnerWorld, charging partners up to $1,800 to attend by invitation only. This caused attendee numbers to drop from about 5,000 to 2,000. The name was also changed to Business Partner Leadership Conference.

In a statement, IBM said: "Our partners have responded positively to a combination of local forums and events, virtual industry summits and online conferences, and major industry shows with specific business partner content and focus days such as Lotusphere, Pulse, Impact, Information On Demand and Innovate among others.

"In addition we continue to evaluate the need for a business partner-only event in the second half of the year."
