HP reseller Basilica dethrones MD

Steve Vassiliades, the founder and chairman of Basilica, has taken back the reins of the Hewlett Packard reseller from current managing director, Andrew Douglas.

Steve Vassiliades, the founder and chairman of Basilica, has taken back the reins of the Hewlett Packard (HP) reseller from current managing director, Andrew Douglas.

Douglas's role at the company is now unclear, but the decision for Vassiliades to return to the helm was prompted by concerns about the company's performance, according to John Young, corporate reseller business manager at HP.

"Steve told me [Basilica] has done well but it can do better. The company is not growing as fast as he would have liked," said Young, adding that Basilica was not expected to radically change its existing product portfolio but that it was "more a need for a change of leadership".

Vassiliades, who formed the business in 1991 and has not had a hands-on role for over two years, felt he needed to "inject new impetus", according to Young.

Further casualties are expected, and Young confirmed that a sales director at Basilica would also be a victim of the "reorganisation".

Despite numerous requests, Basilica has so far declined to comment on the developments.
