McCarthy moves in with Morse
Ex-Dell channel partner sales manager, Mark McCarthy, has resurfaced at Morse as the reseller's sales manager in charge of Hewlett Packard business, following his departure from the direct PC vendor last year.
McCarthy left Dell at the same time as Mike Newton, who was vice president for UK and Ireland (PC Dealer, 19 November). During his three years at Dell, McCarthy was credited with establishing the vendor's UK indirect channel. He will take with him to Morse Data his experience from Dell, plus a previous spell at HP, and will report to the MD.
Commenting on his move, McCarthy said it would have been difficult to find another PC manufacturer with the same outlook and structure as Dell.
'Morse is not too dissimilar to Dell in its philosophy. It has a young average age within the company, and it takes a technical approach to selling,' he said.
He also admitted that he was approached by his former employer HP. 'We met and discussed possible opportunities,' he added.
McCarthy worked at Hewlett Packard for two-and-a-half years, although his relationship with the vendor covers a total of five years.
While there, he worked on the HP Unix contract with distributor Protek, which later became part of Ingram Micro.
