3M sticks to the PC Post-it Note idea
NOTES SOFTWARE
3M has decided to put its Post-it Notes on to the PC as most people already like to stick the paper versions all over their colleagues' computers.
The software is intended to replicate the paper product. The notepad is always accessible and allows users to create Post-it Notes in the familiar format, alarm them to act as reminders, and send them using cc:Mail or Microsoft Mail.
Annie Lexcellent, European market development manager, said 3M was mainly targeting SoHo users and was actively building up contacts with computer retailers. "Our aim is to secure a market position in which the Post-it product range becomes synonymous with note-taking across all platforms, electronic as well as paper. There is a 90% brand awareness in the UK amongst people working in offices," she said.
The product comes out in January 1997. 3M has lined up four different adverts for its media campaign, it plans cross-promotions with its other lines, and will mailshot prospective users. Pricing has not been set but is expected to be between u20 and u30.
3M has also produced a Post-it Notes Starter Kit which contains the basic software, design software for notes, and Post-it Notes for inkjet and laser printers, and Post-it Signs for inkjet and laser printers.
The paper products are attached to backing sheets with the traditional adhesive. Notes have to be created using the design software and can then be printed from the desktop.
