IiS teams with BSA over SAM

Forces unite to push importance of compliance to UK firms

Investors in Software (IiS), the driving force behind the international software asset management (SAM) standard, has forged an alliance with the Business Software Alliance (BSA) to further drive the SAM message in the UK.

In the same week, Hewlett-Packard (HP) has thrown its weight behind the group and joined the IiS board of directors.

Shaune Frohlich, a board member of IiS, said: “It is a big deal that HP has come on board and we still have a number of vendors that are considering coming on board in various guises. Having HP makes it easier to win the next vendor over down the line.

“The alliance with the BSA will make it easier to communicate a much clearer message to the business community. In the past the SAM message has been confused.”

Beth Scott, vice president of the BSA, said: “As our focus is on the education side and we have shared members with IiS as well as different means of promoting SAM and the benefits it can bring to a business, we decided on a strategic partnership.

“We are always looking at opportunities where we can partner and enhance our message.”
