VAR picks Domino for Blackberry

LAN2LAN launches Roam software to increase Lotus take-up

Networking VAR LAN2LAN has launched its own software to increase the take-up of IBM's Lotus Domino on Research in Motion's (RIM's) Blackberry devices in the enterprise space.

The firm claimed sales of Lotus Domino on Blackberry have been hindered by server-to-device connectivity problems. The VAR has launched Roam, its own software, as a solution.

Before, when a Blackberry device went out of range of GPRS or third-generation reception it could not be used. But Roam allows users to continue to use the device, and updates all of the information once back in range.

Gary Duke, sales director at LAN2LAN, said: "We have finalised this product over the past few months. We will sell it ourselves and through other resellers as an ISV product. This is a massive opportunity because we already have more than 100 customers using Lotus Domino."

The firm is offering training to other resellers.

LAN2LAN began working on the product when RIM launched its Mobile Data Services product, which allows users to transmit and receive data through the Blackberry, in June last year.

"When the Blackberry first came out, the return on investment was so good people wanted to run corporate business applications such as CRM and Lotus Domino on it," Duke said.

Kevin Vine, director of networking services at distributor Ingram Micro, which does not sell Blackberry but is active in the mobility arena, said: "Roam offers good value-add because Blackberry is another device that links to networks."
