Early Warning against CNP
Anti-fraud organisation revamps application process
Online credit card fraud in the channel is set to mushroom this year, according to an independent UK fraud-busting body.
Early Warning, an online scheme open to resellers and retailers that fights card-not-present (CNP) fraud, has revamped its online application process. The scheme is linked to 13 UK police forces.
The CardAware V3.0 web site now allows up to 1,000 sales records to be checked at once, and features a message board and a 'Fraudster Watch' function.
"If a reseller has a suspect order, it can type in the details and the site checks against our hotlist," said Stephen Warren, director of Early Warning. "Fraud will increase online as schemes such as chip and PIN close certain doors to fraudsters."
Eddie Pacey, director of credit at Bell Microproducts Europe, said because fraudsters do not use the same credit card for long, it is often difficult to keep track of all the information. "Anything that fights CNP fraud in the channel is welcome, providing the information is up to date," he said.
