Resellers are set to benefit from growth in the content delivery sector, according to industry analyst IDC which expects the market to grow from $514m in 2000 to more than $4.5bn in 2004.

Thom Suhy, director of field marketing at intelligent content provider epicRealm, claimed that web-based businesses benefit from improved content delivery.

"The failure of dotcoms has highlighted how many websites lack the ability to attract and hold on to users," he said. "End users will not go back to a website if it takes 10 to 12 minutes to get from the home page to where they want to go."

Nigel Hawthorn, Europe, Middle East & Africa marketing director at content delivery vendor CacheFlow, explained why slow websites are likely to struggle. "If your site is slow, it's like having a single till in a shop. People will leave rather than queue up," he said.

A lot of streaming business can go through resellers via a vendor partner providing technical support. "Resellers can offer intelligent bandwidth to their customers by simply switching a button if they have a suitable partner," said Suhy.

He claimed that epicRealm's Dynamic Cache application can update content within seconds. "Dynamic Cache ensures visitors get a top-notch web experience," he claimed.
