Ascend signs network distie
Networking vendor Ascend has chosen Data Connectivity as distributor for its remote access and intranet products, but has not ruled out a deal with Azlan or Persona.
Ascend is still expected to sign with a pan-European networking distributor in the next three months, but chose Data Connectivity for the UK because of its successful and targeted approach.
Phil Holcroft, Ascend UK MD, said: 'Many distributors claim to add value but can't deliver. Data Connectivity's track record in introducing network product into the channel is envied by many, and we wanted to be part of the success story.'
Data Connectivity is also in discussions with switching vendor Xylan and a deal is expected within the next two weeks.
Neil Ledger, MD at Data Connectivity, said his firm had also held talks with US Robotics but chose Ascend because of its niche nature. 'Ascend is a fast-growing company, but is not over-distributed and offers a high margin retention on its products,' he said.
'Its Max 4000 product also fills the gap we have at the high end of our ACC range for medium to large corporates.'
Ledger said that Data Connectivity would focus on five core manufacturers: 3Com, ACC, Ascend, Gandalf and Newbridge Networks.
