Computer 2000 has confirmed Simon Aldous as the newly-created director of volume marketing, as it continues its sales and marketing reshuffle. Aldous, who joined the firm last March as general manager of CAD unit Datech 2000, will oversee the specialist focused business units.

Avnet Visual+Data Solutions has signed a distribution agreement with Chip PC, which covers Chip PC’s complete thin clients solution, comprising the “computer-in-the-wall” Jack PC thin clients, the Xtreme PC thin clients, the Xcalibur XP management software and the client-side add-on applications Xtreme Plug-Ins.
Proofpoint security suite
More than 70 per cent of IT managers are concerned about web-based emails as the main source of confidential information leaks, according to research by messaging security vendor Proofpoint. In response, the vendor has announced its Network Content Sentry security suite, which prevents sensitive information from being leaked through emails and blogs.
Sony’s television series
Three flat-screen television ranges with high definition and digital functionality have been launched by Sony. The S series is available in sizes from 19 inch to 32 inch, and the V series from 26 inches to 32 inches.The W series features two flat screen TVs, one with a 40 inch LCD screen and the other a 50 inch plasma display.
Email with OpenHand
Mobile application software vendor OpenHand has unveiled version four of its mobile email software. It includes a snapshot function to view emails, offline calendar, and file access to shared documents. Around 45 million people are expected to use mobile email by the end of 2008, according to the Yankee Group.
Best of boat worlds
Device configuration and security firm LANDesk has sold an installation of its management, security, patch management and server management suites to Sunseeker, a boat-building firm based in Poole. The software is intended to help alleviate Sunseeker’s IT department’s heavy workloads caused by managing five factories in the region.
QLogic on top of the world
Switch vendor QLogic gained the largest market share for blade server embedded Fibre Channel switches, in both ports shipped and revenue during 2004, according to IDC. Worldwide Fibre Channel Switch 2005-2009 Forecast and 2004 Vendor Shares found that QLogic had 68.5 per cent of revenues and 64.4 per cent of ports shipped during the period.
