IT Events plucks Clark from Compaq
David Clark, former small to medium business manager at Compaq, has taken up a post at conference organiser IT Events, to assume charge of its first trade show.
Clark left Compaq on 9 April after being with the company for less than six months. Before that, Clark was employed at Computer 2000 for eight years as the distributor's marketing director (PC Dealer, 9 September 1998).
Talking to PC Dealer, Clark said: 'The job at IT Events came up and it was too good an opportunity to miss. While I enjoyed working at Compaq, I had no idea that the company was going to be so big.
I believe that I operate better in a smaller organisation.'
In his role as event director, Clark will be in charge of the IT Trade Expo, which is due to be held in October. While IT Events organises a number of user shows, such as Windows, it has never branched out into trade shows. A trade show was launched four years ago, but the planned Reseller 95 was never held.
Clark claimed that there is a gap in the market to hold independent trade events alongside distributor roadshows. 'So many vendors are looking at strategies with mixed channels and we need to find a way of working together.'
He added: 'Distributor shows are not independent. There are positives for distributors, but it's not the same for vendors.'
