Security VARs add support to ADSI

Reseller body gathers momentum as it rebrands from CEDSI to ADSI

Hobson: The aim is to encourage best practice

A group of prominent security resellers are pressing ahead with plans to form a governing body designed to stamp out the industry’s notorious cost-plus-one culture.

The embryonic organisation, which last week rebranded from the Council for Ethical Data Security Integrators (CEDSI) to the Association of Data Security Integrators (ADSI), enjoys the backing of up to 10 VARs, including 2e2, MIS, GSS and Vistorm.

Members must have traded for a minimum of three years, have a significant number of trained technical staff and have public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

Security vendors and distributors will also be asked to join as associates.

GSS managing director David Hobson will be ADSI’s treasurer. He said: “The aim of the association is to encourage best practice and assure end users they are dealing with a professional organisation.”

However, Cris Pikes, chairman of Sysec Security Group, was sceptical. “I have seen this kind of thing used to lock people out of the market and generally they do not take off,” he said.

Hobson stressed that ADSI is seeking further members and any enquiries can be made to [email protected] or [email protected].
