Netscape?s going completely nets

Netscape has launched its new groupware software, Communicator, which it is pitching as a complete Internet/intranet solution. The beta version of the package, which has been available since last October, is now available for download. Communicator comprises five components: Navigator 4, the latest version of Netscape?s browser software; Composer, an HTML authoring package with drag and drop links, images and Java applets; an open email facility; Collabra, group discussion software with off-line reader; and real-time collaboration software. For the corporate end of the market, Netscape has added a calendar and centralised user management by MIS professionals. Netscape has also introduced a subscription-based service, with content provided by over 40 companies, including the Daily Telegraph, Gartner Group and the Hotwired Network. Prices are planned at $49 for Netscape Communicator Standard Edition and $79 for Netscape Communicator Professional Edition. Users of Netscape Navigator 3 who have purchased a subscription receive an upgrade to Netscape Communicator at no extra charge.
