European Electronique wins IT advisory role

VAR set to provide the IT advice and expertise in Sandwell College's new high-tech campus build

VAR European Electronique has won a lucrative deal to advise and assist Sandwell College on its new, high-tech campus build.

Set to open in 2011, the new campus, which is situated in West Bromwich, will integrate the latest in IT, using digital and interactive technology to support academic staff in delivering stimulating, dynamic and flexible teaching to students.

In its role, European Electronique will advise on the implementation of carbon-efficient and sustainable solutions, including energy-saving servers, communication networks and a centralised print management system to reduce wastage.

Amir Kanwar, head of network services at Sandwell College, said: “These innovations will help our teachers deliver classes more effectively, as well as transforming the way students learn.”

Other technology set to be implemented includes blade servers, physical security, wireless network enhancements, virtualisation, digital signage, cashless catering and IP telephony.

Kanwar added: “We chose European Electronique as our ICT Partner as it has an excellent understanding of our needs and an in-depth knowledge of the education market. What really impressed us was its approach towards working with us. It operates in true partnership, as an extension of the college’s IT team, and is always on hand if we need advice and support.”

Yolanta Gill, managing director of European Electronique, said: “ICT is really transforming the way teachers teach and students learn and we’re delighted to be at the forefront of this revolution. Sandwell College is a very exciting project and we’re pleased to be bringing the latest in ICT to benefit both students and teachers.”
