Insight cuts UK staff

Online reseller giant Insight has announced it is axing 90 staff from its UK division.

Online reseller giant Insight has announced it is axing 90 staff from its UK division.

The firm, which earlier this year blamed the UK for "disappointing" second-quarter results, has now reduced its British workforce to about 700.

Following the results a senior US management team flew to the UK to implement a "corrective action plan" (CRN, 29 July), later named the Back to Excellence programme.

A representative of Insight said: "We are looking at how best to increase margin performance, lower the volume and cost of returns, reduce debtors and cut infrastructure costs.

"We have cut about 90 jobs as a result of changes and cost-cutting measures achieved by centralising functions and reducing duplication of duties."

One analyst said the move was not a surprise. "This is purely a response to the Q2 results and the current climate," he said. "The aim is to turn the company back to profit, and the job losses have been spread through all departments."
