Azzurri acquisitions boost it into top 100

Networking VAR Azzurri Communi-cation's acquisition-hungry approach is propelling rapid growth.

For the second year running, Azzurri has been placed in the top 100 growing technology firms, according to The Sunday Times, with a series of regional telecoms and technology firms buy-outs pushing up figures.

The league table is compiled for independent, unquoted technology companies in the UK with sales of at least £3m; positions are decided by sales growth between 2002 and 2004.

When Azzurri spent £5.5m on public sector firm Chisholms Computers, a supplier of hardware and network solutions, educational internet services and software development (CRN, 21 February), it was the firm’s 12th acquisition in just four years.

Azzurri’s previous acquisitions include mobile consultancy firm Axxent, bought last year for £2.7m, and voice and data VARs Everlogic and Convergent Systems.

Martin St Quinton, chief executive of Azzurri, said recent growth and sales turnover was “testament to the hard work, commitment and dedication” of Azzurri’s workforce.

“I’m delighted with Azzurri’s achievements this year. We have made two excellent acquisitions with more planned in the coming months.

“We continue to meet our financial objectives and strive to deliver to our customers IT and communications solutions that are first class,” St Quinton said.

Tim Brooks, managing director at Crane Telecommunication’s Avaya business, was positive about Azzurri’s fortunes and underlined notable Avaya shipments.

“Our Azzurri relationship is very positive and its growth record is impressive. When we see our customers growing, this assists our development. Azzurri has made acquisitions and consolidated in the channel, and is helping to bring its skills and support to its new ventures,” Brooks said.
