Mayflex to boost CommScope in key verticals

"Rolls Royce of structured cabling" signs up second distributor

Vendor CommScope has signed up distributor Mayflex to help build a mid-market channel in the UK.

The self-proclaimed “Rolls Royce of structured cabling” has traditionally targeted the enterprise space with its Systimax product line, but is bringing its lower-end Uniprise range to the UK.

It has an existing distribution relationship with Anixter and has now signed up Birmingham-based Mayflex.

CommScope’s managing director for northern Europe, John McCarthy, indicated his firm would target key verticals, including healthcare, education and retail.

“Systimax is a high-end technology and our partners recognised there were a lot of customers that did not, or could not, afford that,” he said. “Now, they can still have a quality product but not at a price premium.”

McCarthy revealed that resellers will initially be split into authorised and unauthorised camps, but that a tiered hierarchy may be introduced at a later date.

“There will be networking and cabling companies, and those from electrical or telecommunications backgrounds,” said McCarthy.

Mayflex managing director Andrew Percival said: “We felt CommScope would [allow us to] service a different side of the market.”
