Vendors reveal rise in profits
Quantum and Symantec enjoy solid quarter
Storage vendor Quantum has grown its third quarter turnover for fiscal 2006 by eight per cent to $218m year on year.
Quantum said the figure, for the period ended December 2005, was partly a result of its acquisition of Certance in January last year, which contributed to a seven per cent sequential increase in turnover.
However, Quantum’s storage systems business shrunk to $69m, down from $84m during Q3 of fiscal 2005. It attributed this to weakened sales at one of its unnamed OEMs.
Rick Belluzzo, chairman of Quantum, said in a statement: “Revenue, gross margins and earnings per share were all solidly higher than in the first two quarters.”
Meanwhile, Symantec generated a pre-tax turnover of $1.253bn during Q3 ended December 2005.
The vendor’s storage management segment grew by nine per cent year-on-year to represent 23 per cent of its total turnover.
