EU recycling directive could be profitable, resellers told
The European Union Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment directive kicks into action next year, but most UK resellers are not ready to take advantage of the margin opportunities of recycling.
But if packaged as a service that includes collection, disposal, and services such as secure data disposal, resellers can make good margin, said Jon Godfrey, managing director of Lifecycle Services.
According to a report by service company Synstar, six million tonnes of electrical equipment get dumped in Europe annually.
Russell Flower, strategy director at Synstar, said some firms are unsure how to recycle, while others think it is expensive, but that "recycling and reuse of PCs can actually result in a small profit".
